Multiple Area Runners Compete at 2A State Cross Country Meet

Full 2014 Class 2A State Cross Country Results -- (girls results) (boys results)

Five area schools sent at least one runner to the Class 2A Kansas State cross country meet on Saturday in Wamego at the Wamego Country club, as they took to the course one final time this year.

While none of the area individuals were able to crack the Top 20 individually the area runners put together a solid day of competition. As teams both Jefferson County North and Washington County girls and boys competed at State. The JCN boys placed ninth, while the Washington County boys finished 11th out of 12 teams; on the girl's side of competition JCN and Washington County finished 11th and 12th, respectively.

Carissa McAfee of JCN picked up the best area individual performance as she raced her way to 23rd to lead the Chargers, while her teammates Jacinta Priest, Savannah Lane, Kayla Hutzell and Maggie Sharp finishes  77th, 85th, 89th and 90th, respectively to round out the lady Chargers team score. On the boys side it was Brysen Weishaar posting the best performance placing 31st for the top area boy’s performance in Class 2A. Thomas Steichen, Alvin Sharp, Evan Weishaar and Lane Fowler finish 54th, 58th, 69th and 77th, respectively to finish out the rest of the Charger finishes on the day.

For Washington County their top performers on the day finished 40th and 41st in the boy’s race with Eric Miller and Kyle McGatlin earning those finishes. The rest of the Tigers finished 70th, 79th, 88th and 92nd, respectively to finish off the Tigers boys team score, as Joe Stegman, Martin Walter, Jefferson Simmons and Cole Thompson picked up those finishes. On the girls side of competition Madison Stone finished 62nd, while Cheyanne Helms placed 81st, Kirsten Kingsbury posted a 87th place finish and Linda Saylor placed 91st. Rachel Wood, Aundrea Bruna and Ashley Davis also raced for the Lady Tigers placing 93rd, 94th and 95th, respectively.

Jackson Heights, McLouth and Onaga each had runners compete at the State competition, also in Class 2A. For the Cobras Kaitlynn Little capped off her career by placing 29th in the girls race, while McLouth's Ceara Funk raced her way to a 56th place. In the boy’s race, Ryan Bristol and Tristan Funk ran for McLouth and placed 37th and 47th, respectively.

For the Onaga Buffaloes, Michael Eisenbarth and Luke Marten race at the State competition finishing 51st and 55th, respectively, while in the girl’s race Maggie Revell ran to a 49th place performance and Alexis VanDonge placed 65th.
