JCN Boys and Girls Team Place 2nd and Onaga Boys Take Third in Class 2A Cross Country Regionals

Area teams took to the course on Saturday in search of a bid for to the state tournament in cross country action and all the area Class 2A teams stayed in the listening area to compete as hosted Troy hosted the Class 2A Regional for area teams and a few others.

At the end of the day the Jefferson County North Chargers locked up the best performance of the day with both teams taking home second place finish each finishing behind Maranatha. While the Onaga boys will be joining the Chargers at State as they raced to a third place team performance, the lady Buffalos missed out on third place by just nine points.

Leading the charge for the Chargers was Devon Wilson on the boy’s side as he raced his way to a third place finish with a time of 19:27.63. Bryson Weishaar joined Wilson in the top taking home seventh place (??) behind a time of 20:28.89. Chargers had one more guy finish in the top 15, as Ted Sharp notched a 15th place on the day.

For the lady Chargers Carissa McAfee lead the way with a sixth place finish racing to a time of 17:16.70, while her teammate, Laramie Leakey placed eighth with a time of 17:56.79. Julie Schrick joined her Charger teammates in the top 15, placing 15th as the third place best finish on her team.

The Onaga Buffalo boys were led by Luke Marten who finished in the top 10, taking home tenth with a time of 20:51.97. While the girls just missed out on qualifying as a team but did manage to have two gals have one of the top five performances not from a top three team as freshman, Alexis VanDonge and Maggie Revell qualified for State with 12th and 16th place performances.

Jackson Heights and McLouth are the lone other 2A teams to be sending a runner to the state competition. Cobra runner, Kaitlyn Little paced herself to a fifth place finish on the day posting a time of 17:14.39. While, McLouth Bulldog Ryan Bristol finished 16th, also earning a spot for him at the State competition.

Valley Falls, McLouth, Immaculata and the host Troy all have runners compete at the Regionals on the day.

Teams and runners now look ahead to the state competition this coming Saturday as Class 2A will compete in Wamego, at the Wamego Country Club. The girls will race at 11:00am and the boys will be the final race of the day at 12:30, as Class 4A and 1A, also compete in Wamego.
