Team Gold and Navy Tie in Battled NEK Volleyball All-Star Game

NEK Volleyball All-Star Teams’ Navy and Gold

Highland Community College hosted its annual Northeast Kansas Volleyball All-Star game at the Ben Allen Fieldhouse, featuring some of the best local senior talent in the top northeast corner of Kansas. Team Gold was head coached by Axtell’s volleyball coach, Rhonda Hasenkamp, and Team Navy was coached by Jefferson West’s Janelle Noel. Team Gold and Team Navy tied 2-2, alternating set wins between all four sets.

Set 1 - Navy over Gold 25-20

The Navy team had a strong set one over team Gold, mostly carried by 1st-team all-leaguer from the Big East, Jaiden Wise, who finished set one with 7 kills. Not going unnoticed for her efforts throughout the entire night for the Navy team was senior setter from Hiawatha, Addison Williams, who did an incredible job setting up her teammates all match long. Baker also had two aces and two kills in the set for team Navy to help lead the winning set charge. 

Set 2 - Gold over Navy 25-18

Team Gold managed to dominate set two with a large part of the help coming from Chesnea Cochren, who had three kills and a block. Ally Sheele had two aces in the set for team Gold as well. Rock Creek teammates Prather and Zoeller both had four kills in the set victory over Team Navy. 

Set 3 - Navy over Gold 25-17

Navy jumped back on top in set three with Jaiden Wise stepping back onto the court and finesing with three kills and an ace in the third set. Gold battled hard in the middle of the set, with Scheele having an impressive three aces in the set despite the set loss 25-17. 

Set 4 - Gold over Navy 15-13

The final set was only played to 15, and Team Gold slimmed it out with the victory after scoring the final two points tied 13-13. The final set was extremely close, and the Rock Creek teammates Zoeller and Prather led another great charge to secure the set victory.
