It was win or go home time Saturday in volleyball action across the state of Kansas and seven area teams capped off their sub-state action by earning a state tournament bid in their respective classifications.

B&B, Centralia, Nemaha Valley, Jefferson County North, Jeff West, Marysville and Santa Fe Trail all are head to State competition come Friday, November 1st.

Class 1A, continued to be dominated by the Twin Valley League as the B&B Falcons and Centralia Panthers each earned a return trip to state. For the B&B Falcons in their final year as a school they will look to three-peat as Class 1A-Division II state champs after winning the last two state competitions. The Falcons had a first round bye as the number one seed in their sub-state at Axtell and then took down Blue Valley-Randolph in the semifinals, before beating Axtell in the finals, winning both matches in straight sets. B&B will go into the tournament 37-3 on the season and ranked as the number one team in Class 1A-DII.

For the Centralia Panthers, they have made the state tournament a second home on regular basis and look for another banner year this season after taking third place last year in Class 1A-Division I. The Panthers hosted their sub-state and was the number one seed earning a first round bye, then beat Frankfort in straight sets in the semifinals and took down Valley Heights in the finals, winning in straight sets once more. Centralia rolls into the state competition on an 11-match winning streak and touting a 34-5 record on the season, while being ranked number one in Class 1A-DI.

Class 2A, it’s another familiar face for volleyball post season as the Northeast Kansas league champs, Jefferson County North Chargers are headed back to the state tourney. Last year the Chargers registered a fourth place performance at State, this year they look to improve upon that. JCN earned the number one seed in sub-state action at Valley Falls and took down Troy in the opening round in straight sets, then dispatched Immaculata in semifinals in straight sets to move to the finals. In the finals the Chargers played the host Dragons of Valley Falls and yet another straight set win for JCN to capture the sub-state title. JCN heads into the state tournament riding a seven-match winning streak and holding a 34-8 record, while being ranked third in Class 2A.

Class 3A, will have a pair of area teams headed to the state competition as Nemaha Valley will be making their 23rd appearance at the state tournament by winning their sub-state at Riverside as the two seed. Raiders battled Pleasant Ridge in round one of sub-state and needed three sets but picked up the win and Nemaha Valley needed three sets again in the semifinals against ACCHS but the Raiders notched another win. In the finals the Raiders faced off against rival Sabetha and came out on top in tightly contest straight set matchup. Nemaha Valley was last in the state tournament just a few years ago in 2011, this year they enter the tourney 21-16 on the season.

For Marysville they have continued their trend of state tournaments making it for the third straight year. Bulldogs were unable to make it out of pool play last year but look to change that this season, as they won sub-state as the number two seed in Minneapolis. In the first round it was a straight win over Beloit for the Marysville, while the Bulldogs needed three sets to top Ellsworth in the semifinals and three more to beat Rock Creek in the finals. Winning sub-state moved Marysville to 31-12 on the season as they head to state ranked sixth in Class 3A.

Class 4A-Division II has a pair of teams from the Big Seven league head to the state tournament, as Santa Fe Trail and Jeff West both won their respective four-team sub-states.

For the Big Seven champs, Santa Fe Trail they were the number one seed in the sub-state at Prairie View and beat Osawatomie and Eudora both in straight sets to win the sub-state. The Chargers tout a 35-4 record as they head to the state tournament as the number one team in Class 4A-DII.

The Jeff West Tigers who fell out of the rankings last week made a charge to beat Bishop Ward and Perry Lecompton to win their sub-state at Perry. Tigers won both matches in straight sets and moved to 24-14 on the season as they gear up for the state tournament.

Many teams saw their season's come to an end in sub-state action and wrapped up their volleyball year, but seven area teams will continue on this coming Friday at State.
