Sabetha's Hughes Highlighted on Softball Field Despite Senior Season Cut Short
Maggi Hughes

The 2020 high school spring sports season was cut short due to the COVID-19 outbreak and because of that we at the MSC Sports Radio Network have decided to salute area athletes that were expected to be the top returners in their respective sports.

For Sabetha senior Maggi Hughes she had her final season on the softball field cut down before it even got started after one of the best offensive years in the state as a junior.

Hughes was great all last season for the Bluejays finishing offensively with a .450 batting average with 24 runs scored and 15 RBI’s while striking out just four times.

She finished with two home runs on the year and led the team in batting average, on-base percentage (.548), slugging percentage (.700), hits (27), runs scored and walks (10).

Defensively Hughes finished with an .881 fielding percentage with over 100 chances yielding 12 errors while racking up seven double plays.

Her strong junior season earned her a first-team spot on the Big 7 All-League team as an infielder which came after earning an honorable mention selection as a sophomore.

Unfortunately for Hughes her senior season was cut short but we wanted to salute Hughes and her contributions to the Bluejays.
