Garber's Decorated High School Career Cut Short
Gabe Garber

With the high school sports season cut short due to the coronavirus outbreak and spring sports athletes not getting a chance to partake in their seasons we have decided to pick athletes of the week to highlight standout athletes returning from a year ago.

Our first boy’s athlete is Sabetha’s Gabe Garber who was expected to be one of the top baseball players in the state heading into this year.

Garber had helped lead the Bluejays to two consecutive 3A State Baseball Championships and last year was named a first team all-state selection after hitting .411 with 19 RBI’s and 32 runs scored to go along with just six strikeouts in over 85 at-bats.

He was tabbed as the player of the year by Sports in Kansas after the Bluejays 2018 state title where he hit over .530 on the season scoring over 35 runs and batting in over 25.

Garber earned first team all-Big League and all-state the past two seasons on the diamond and on the football field was just as good earning 3A offensive player of the year by SIK in 2019 after taking the Bluejays to a second consecutive state football title.

He most recently committed to continue his athletic career at the University of Kansas where he will play football, but he hasn’t shut down the possibility of trying out for the baseball team as well.

It’s unfortunate that Garber didn’t get the chance to go for a 3-peat on the baseball field but Garber will still go down as one of the top high school sports athletes and perhaps most decorated athlete the state has seen in quite some time.
