Centralia entered last night at 10-0 and ranked second in class 1A D1 while the Hanover Wildcats are also 10-0 but are ranked #1 in 1A D2. Hanover also had a twenty-four-game winning streak coming into the night, with their last opponent to beat them being in Centralia last season, they would get beaten yet again by them, just this time much worse.
Girls First Place Match - Centralia over Hanover 71-43
Centralia Girls faced an early deficit in the first quarter of around six to eight points before not wasting any more time to charge forth and take the lead before the quarter’s end. Centralia took the lead 16-14 as Hayden Kramer made the last rebound and layup before the last second of the quarter expired. Oen Deters had seven points in the opening quarter for Centralia, but that wouldn’t even be her best yet to come.
Centralia took no time to deliver the decisive strike in the second quarter to go up 36-25 at the half. Oen Deters had another outstanding quarter with eight points for the Panthers, hitting a three-point shot sometime in the last couple minutes of the half as well for Centralia. However Oen Deters did have to come off the court for the final three minutes of the first half and her team had to defend without her, and they did just great with Tatum Kramer hitting a deep three-pointer from the right corner to keep their momentum up. Anna Jueneman had ten points leading for Hanover in the first half.
The Panthers would fully insert the dagger in the third quarter by out-scoring Hanover 30-11 to go into the fourth 66-36. Oen Deters not only stayed out of foul trouble, but she was trouble, as she hit three threes in the third quarter, while Hayden Kramer added six interior points, and Josie Haverkamp decimated the paint as well with eight herself in the third.
Centralia would put it away 71-43 in the fourth quarter as a running clock was enforced through against the rank #1 team in class 1A D1. Oen Deters finished the fourth with her final three-pointer of the game to put her at five total on the night,
The Benedictine Commit and now over 1,500 point scorer in senior Oen Deters had a phenomenal TVL tournament finish with twenty-seven points and five threes in the championship. Overall Deters put up ten total threes and a combined seventy-five points in her TVL Tournament run. Josie Haverkamp finished the championship with a double-double with fifteen points and ten boards, while the other sophomore Hayden Kramer ended with four boards, three steals, and fourteen points. Anna Jueneman ended the night with just fourteen points for Hanover (ALL STATS NOT APPROXIMATE.
Summary
Hanover’s twenty-four-game winning streak comes to an abrupt end to again the last team that ever defeated them, Centralia. While Centralia hands Hanover their first loss of the season the Panthers stay undefeated at 11-0. Centralia’s next opponent is Cair Paravel this Tuesday.
