The 11th Annual Thunder Classic had their semifinal games on Thursday night with both games broadcast on 103.9 KNZA.
Rock Creek 55, St. Marys 61
This game was a battle of state ranked and undefeated teams. Rock Creek the #3 team in Class 4A while St. Marys came into the week #8 in Class 3A.
The Bears led the game 17-12 at the end of the first quarter but would outscore the Mustangs 19-12 in the second quarter to lead the game 36-24 at halftime.
Rock Creek battled back holding the Bears to just seven points in the third quarter but St. Marys was able to keep the lead and hit some clutch free throws late to secure the win.
St. Marys was led by Brady Hurla with 19 points while Ben DeVader and Howie Rezac each finished with 10 points.
Rock Creek was led by Eli Bell with 16 points while Logan Klingenberg added 11 points. The two teams combined for 27 turnovers.
St. Marys hit 13-of-18 free throws while Rock Creek finished the game 6-of-13 from the line.
Troy 30, Nemaha Central 49
Nemaha Central entered the week ranked #6 in Class 3A and stayed unbeated with their win over the Trojans.
The Thunder defense was stout once again as they led Troy 25-9 at halftime. The Trojans battled back and played a much better second half and got to within 10 early in the fourth quarter but that was as close as they would get.
Colby Frehe finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead Nemaha Central while Kalem Schmelzle also pitched in with 12 points.
Troy had three players with seven points each and that was Logan Blevins, Gannon Bowe, and Henry Geiger.
Nemaha Central outrebounded Troy 32-24.
