The #2 class 1A D1 Centralia Panthers took on the #7 class 2A Doniphan West Mustangs for the first time this season for the first semifinal game play last night, and Centralia stole the court with scoring and steals. Hanover Girls went toe-to-toe with Valley Heights and made an early ten-point second-quarter comeback to take the lead in the third and hold it the rest of the way.
Girls - Centralia over Doniphan West 62-34
Centralia came out hot for the first quarter taking a 15-8 point lead with the sophomore Hayden Kramer leading the way with seven points in the quarter, going three-of-three from the free-throw line. Josie Haverkamp for Centralia led in rebounds in the quarter for Centralia with six.
Centralia had a late start getting into a rhythm in the second quarter but held firm with the seven-point lead going into half 27-20. Sophomore Courtney Johnson for Doniphan West made three threes in the first half with two of them coming from the second quarter. Sophomore Keelyn Rempe responded with one three of her own late in the half for Centralia.
The third quarter was nothing but chaos reigned down from Centralia as the Panthers out-scored the Mustangs in the quarter alone 21-6, Centralia leading into the fourth 48-26. Oen Deters had her best quarter with eight points all within the arch while Josie Haverkamp performed her best scoring quarter with seven.
Centralia would put it away in the fourth quarter 62-34 with another scoring show from Deters who had seven points in the fourth. Emmyjoe Whetstine would hit her first three of the game for the Mustangs in the final quarter as well.
Oen Deters finished the night with twenty-one points, eight rebounds, seven steals, one block, and over three assists. Deters has now had twenty-one points or more in all of her TVL Tournament games so far. Hayden Kramer was quickly behind Deters in scoring with fifteen points and three boards. Tava Gibbs and Josie Haverkamp both ended the night with eleven each while Haverkamp had seven boards to end the night. Courtney Johnson ended the game as the Mustang's leading scorer with eleven points and three threes.
Centralia out-rebounded Doniphan West roughly 27-15. (ALL STATS NOT APPROXIMATE).
Girls - Hanover over Valley Heights 67-54
A tight race began to start the battle between the Wildcats and the Lady Mustangs and Valley Heights would come out of the first quarter leading 15-11. In the first quarter, the Mustangs hit three threes from Josie Parker, Tessa Miller, and Anne Toerber.
The Mustangs were up one point in the second quarter 29-19 before they were out-scored 13-5 within the last fifteen scores of the half. Anna Jueneman started to get involved for Hanover as she’d finish with seven on the quarter and twelve for the half. Drew Bruna had five points in the second quarter with a three and both Ally Scheele and Nora Heiman scored four. The Mustangs still had the lead just 34-32.
It took no longer than a minute into the third quarter for the Wildcats to jump ahead with the lead and from there on out they held it without breaking much of a sweat. Hanover out-scored Valley Heights 19-6 in the third to go into a 51-40 final quarter. Anna Jueneman had yet another out-standing quarter with nine points in the third, going three-of-four from the free-throw line. Ally Scheele added her first three of the game as well in the quarter.
Hanover would put away the final quarter with the final tally of 67-54 and despite the Mustangs going on some spurts and runs were in the end, defeated. Hanover ended the game with nine straight free throws made with three coming from the fourth. Anna Jueneman finished with twenty-seven points in the game, six rebounds, and three steals. Drew Bruna had ten for Hanover and six other players got on the board as well. Valley Height's leading scorer was Ava Smith with fourteen and Mia Vermetten tucked closely behind with twelve points and six boards. (ALL STATS NOT APPROXIMATE).
Hanover has now won seven straight against Valley Heights.
Summary
Centralia and Hanover stay undefeated at 10-0 on the season to move on to the TVL Girls Championship at 4:00 PM on Saturday. The third-place girl's match will be played at 2:30 PM between the Doniphan West Mustangs and Valley Heights Mustangs.
