Troy Sweeps Riverside in NEKL Doubleheader

The Troy basketball team won both of their games on Friday night at home against the Riverside Cyclones to stay undefeated on the season. 

Girls: Riverside 21, Troy 56

This game was dominated by Harper Whetstine and the Trojans (3-0, 2-0). Harper opened the game on fire scoring 17 points as the Trojans led 26-8 after the first quarter. 

Whetstine was pulled at the beginning of the fourth quarter and she would finish the game with 32 points and six rebounds. Whetstine has scored 29, 35, and 32 points in her first three games this season. 

Troy got 10 points and eight rebounds from Allie Franken and eight points from Gracie Grable. 

Riverside (0-2, 0-1) was led by Trinity Jackson with eight points and Ella Wissler with six points and seven rebounds. Troy outrebounded Riverside 27-17 and forced the Cyclones into 29 turnovers. 

Boys: Riverside 63, Troy 73 (2 OT)

This game was controlled by Riverside for the first three quarters. The Cyclones (1-1, 0-1) led 16-12 at the end of the first quarter, 35-30 at halftime, and 48-36 going into the fourth quarter. 

The Trojans (3-0, 2-0) erased the 12 point deficit by outscoring Riverside 16-4 in the fourth quarter to force overtime. 

Both teams would score nine points in the first overtime and the game was tied at 61 going into the second overtime. 

Troy's Wyatt Wissler hit a shot with under 10 seconds left in the first overtime to give the Trojans a two-point lead but Riverside's Isaac Chenoweth tied the game at the buzzer with a left-wing jumper. 

The second overtime was dominated by the Trojans as they were able to force multiple turnovers and hit a few free throws to pull away for the comeback win. 

Both teams had three players foul out and there were 63 combined free throws shot between the two teams. 

Troy was led by Henry Geiger with 23 points and 13 rebounds while Logan Blevins finished with 16 points. 

Riverside was led in the game by Chenoweth with 24 points and 12 rebounds while Keagan Hughes finished the game with 11 points and six rebounds.
