SIK Postseason Awards Announced for 2024 Football Season

Sports in Kansas have announced their postseason awards for the 2024 football season with some area athletes and coaches honored. 

Axtell head coach Eric Detweiler was once again named the 8M-II Coach of the Year while assistant Dale Buessing was named the 8M/6M Assistant of the Year. Detweiler has won the award four years in a row as the Eagles have won four consecutive state titles. 

Axtell's Eli Broxterman was named the 8M-II Defensive Player of the Year. Broxterman compiled over 280 career tackles and nine interceptions. 

Axtell's Brandon Schmelzle was named the 8M-II Offensive Player of the Year and was also named Top-11 All-Classes. The KU signee accounted for 180 career touchdowns with over 3,000 career passing yards and over 3,000 career rushing yards. 

Nemaha Central's Carter Hajek, for the second straight season, was named the 2A Offensive Player of the Year and was also the non-senior Offensive Player of the Year for 3A and below. This season, Hajek rushed for over 2,300 yards and passed for more than 1,100 yards with 53 total touchdowns.
