Wrapping up the month of April several area track and field teams were in action on Monday at the Pleasant Ridge Invitational and put forth some strong performances.
Leading the way for the area teams were the Jefferson County North Chargers as the girls and boys each earned first place as teams. JCN boys notched 129.5 total points winning by 8.5 points over Christ Prep Academy. Pleasant Ridge boys earned third place, while Maur Hill-Mount Academy took fourth and Mclouth fifth place out of 10 teams. ACCHS, Valley Falls and Oskaloosa posted sixth, seventh and tenth place team finishes. On the girls side JCN scored 176 points and won by 28 points. ACCHS and Pleasant Ridge girls took third and fourth, while Oskaloosa finished out the Top five. Mclouth, Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Valley Falls finished sixth, seventh and ninth.
Fourteen first place finishes on the paced the JCN boys and girls to first place team performances at the Pleasant Ridge Invite. In the boy’s competition it was a sweep of the relays as the Chargers posted times of 46.34, 3:39 and 9:11.67 to win the 4x100, 4x400 an 4x800 meter relays. Caden McAfee won a pair of events for the JCN boys as he tossed his way to first in the shot put (39'10) and javelin (153'06), while Ridge Robertson took first in the pole vault (10'00). Lady Chargers were led by Annabelle Vaught who won the long jump (13'10), triple jump (33'02.50) and high jump (5'0), while the girls 4x100 and 4x800 meter relay teams posted times of 54.18 and 11:16 to earn first place. Two other lady Chargers earned gold medals in field events as Sammi Hughes took first in the pole vault (7'0) and Ravyn Jobbins won the javelin (106'02). Kassidy Robertson earned first in the 100 meter dash (13.14).
Three of multi-event winners led the host Pleasant Ridge's performances on the day. Gylnn Smith won the boys 100 meter dash (11.17) and the triple jump (43'00), while Luke Oatney took first in the boys 800 and 1600 meter runs behind times of 2:13 and 4:57. Lady Rams were led by Emma Schwinn who swept the hurdles again this year winning the 100 and 300 meter hurdles with times of 17.17 and 50.27.
ACCHS Tigers had four event winners on the day with two in the boy’s competition and two in the girl’s action. Tucker Smith took first in the boy’s 200 meter dash (24.40), while Luke Miller won the boys discus (113'04). Kayla Vessar sprinted to first in the girl’s 200 meter dash (28.61), while Annie Hall won the girls discus (115'00).
Leading Maur Hill-Mount Academy was the performance of Taylor Folsom as he won the boys high jump (6'02) and long jump (18'04).
Mclouth Bulldogs had a pair of first place finishes as Baylee Wolfe took first in the girls 3200 meter run (13:38) and Sarah Dailey won the girls shot put (33'04.25).
