Both Silver Lake and Sabetha took a pair of tough losses on Tuesday as Silver Lake fell 9-0 in five innings and 7-4 on the road at Ottawa, while Sabetha lost a pair of one-run games at home against Marysville 10-9 and 7-6.

The legion baseball regular season wraps up Wednesday night for NEKL teams with three contests as Doniphan County hosts Sabetha, Silver Lake travels to Oskaloosa and Seneca is at Marysville. Each contest will be just one game starting at 7:00pm.

Sabetha Suffers Pair of Tough One-Run Losses to Marysville

Despite battling back into the contests and having late chances to snag the win each time Sabetha ultimately fell to Marysville on Tuesday night in a pair of one-run contests. Marysville earned 10-9 and 7-6 wins at Somerset Park.

Led by a three-run double by Hunter Warnick Marysville jumped up early getting a 4-0 lead in the first. Sabetha answered with a run in the bottom of the first but Marysville tacked on four more in the fifth taking advantage of Sabetha miscues. Up 8-1 Marysville saw Sabetha hang tough scoring a pair in the bottom of the fifth and another in the sixth and then made the game interesting in the bottom seventh with four runs. Despite a strong seventh Sabetha fell just short leaving the tying and go-ahead runs on base in the seventh as Marysville held on for the 10-9 win.

Trey Lohse earned the win on the mound for Marysville in five innings of work and had three hits, while Brennan Wetter notched the save. Sabetha was led by Joe Gruber and Riley Hermann who each had three hits in the loss.

Game two saw a quick and early lead for Marysville as they were up 3-1 after just one inning of action. Both teams added a tally in the second and then Marysville made it 6-2 with a pair of runs in the third. Sabetha kept the scoring going with a run in the bottom third and in the fourth Marysville got a run and Sabetha notched two runs making it a 7-5 game in favor of Marysville after four. Sabetha down to their final three-outs scored an unearned run to draw within one and had the tying run on third but left it there as Marysville held on again for the one-run win this time 7-6.

Jayton Haggard tossed the complete game striking out 13 in the win while giving up just four singles in the win for Marysville.

The pair of losses moves Sabetha to 23-9 on the season.

Silver Lake Struggles In Pair of Contests With Ottawa

Offensive struggles led to tough losses on the road against Ottawa for Silver Lake on Tuesday as Ottawa won 9-0 in five innings and 7-4.

Game one saw Ottawa took the early lead with two-runs in the bottom of the first and added three runs in the third and four more in the fourth to claim the win in five innings. Ottawa out-hit Silver Lake in the contest 7-2, while drawing seven free passes. In the loss Kyle Frick tossed four innings surrendering nine runs on seven hits, five walks and struckout five for Silver Lake. Garret Huske and Justin Keller recorded the lone two Silver Lake hits as they had just four base runners in game one.

Ottawa took the lead early in game two also with a run in the first and another in the third but Silver Lake got on the board with two-runs in the top fourth using three singles and two walks tying the game at 2-2. A four-run output in the bottom fifth pushed the game back in the favor of Ottawa but Silver Lake answered with two-runs in the sixth on a two-run homer by Joey Clark. Ottawa tacked on a run in the sixth and went on to secure the 7-4 win.

Jake Lindstrom tossed four innings and Huske two innings in the loss for Silver Lake, while Clark was 1-3 with a three run homer and Keller, Reid Walker and Wyatt Heiman each had a hit.

With the two losses Silver Lake moved to 16-10 on the season.
