Hanover Girls Win Dual Of TVL Teams With Centralia In 1A-DI State Semifinals

It was a Twin Valley League showdown in the Class 1A-Division I State tournament Semifinals in the girls tournament as Centralia and Hanover duked it out for the right to play for the State title. Jumping out to an early lead Hanover used that to hold off Centralia for the 58-57 win and a trip to the State title game for the first time in school history. 

An 8-0 run started the game off over the first three minutes of play for Hanover and Centralia called a timeout with 5:18 left in the first looking to corral the troops. The Panthers clawed back into the game and trailed just by three, 13-10 at the end of the first quarter. Hanover pushed the lead out to double figures with an 18-10 second taking a double figure lead for the first time in the game with 1:26 left in the first half and the Wildcats led 31-20 at the half. A 10-2 run started the second half as Hanover came out of the locker room charged up and clicking early to start the second half but Centralia end the third on a run of their own an drew within nine points trailing 46-37 after three quarters. The Panthers looked inside in the fourth and with 10 points from Cassidy Haufler chipped away at the Hanover lead and got within a single possession late in the contest. Down three with just seconds left Centralia got a two-point field goal but it came in the final two seconds of the game and Hanover snuck away with the 58-57 win. 

Hanover despite being out-rebounded 34-23 by Centralia and the Panthers shooting 52.3% from the field used points off turnovers to earn the win. Wildcats forced 22 Centralia turnovers and only turned the ball over five times themselves, while also hitting 15-25 free throws. Macy and Riley Doebele led Hanover with 14 points each, while Macy grabbed seven rebounds and Riley was 9-13 from the free throw with clutch free throws in the final minute of the game. Ashton Jueneman added 12 points in the Wildcat win to help Hanover improve to 23-2 on the season and get to their first ever State title game. 

Centralia in the loss was led by Madison Lueger who scored 16 points going 6-6 from the line, while Haufler finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Maegan Koch posted a 12 point and 11 rebound game and Katie Glatczak netted 10 points as Centralia fell to 23-2 on the year. 

Both teams will look to end their season with wins at the 1A-DI State tournament in Hays as the Centralia girls will play for third place at 12:00pm on Saturday, March 10th versus South Central and Hanover will play for the 1A-DI State title at 4:00pm against Olpe.
