Jackson Heights Sweeps Girls & Boys Track Titles at Oskaloosa Invitational

Full Oskaloosa Track Invitational Results - Girls results & Boys results 

Several Northeast Kansas League schools along with a few others took the track and the field for track action at the Oskaloosa Invitational on Tuesday and every area school had at least one event winner on the day. 

The girl’s team title went to Jackson Heights by a wide margin as the Cobras amassed 143 total points to take first at the Oskaloosa Invitational with the host Oskaloosa taking second with 98 total points and Doniphan West rounding out the Top three finishing with 80 points. The rest of the girls team standings had Jefferson County North take fourth, McLouth fifth, Valley Falls sixth, Veritas Christian seventh and Pleasant Ridge eighth. 

For the boys action the race for the top team spot was a tight one as Jackson Heights took the team crown but by only three points over the host Oskaloosa Bears who had 132 compared to the Cobras 135. Doniphan West boys like the girls took home third place as a team. The rest of the boys team standings had Jefferson County North fourth, Valley Falls fifth, McLouth sixth, Pleasant Ridge seventh and Veritas Christian eighth. 

Ten individual event wins helped push the Jackson Heights girls and boys to the team crowns at the Oskaloosa Invitational. Faith Little led the charge for the Cobras as she paced her way to the 800 and 1600 meter run gold medals with times of 2:22 and 5:45, while the lady Cobras also won the 4x400 meter relay (4:35) and had Trinity McMahon win the 300 meter hurdles (55.82) and Becca Gibson win the shot put (36'09.50). For the boys both Westin Jacobsen and Dalton Chartier won running events taking the gold in the 400 meter dash (53.45) and 800 meter run (2:15), respectively. While the Cobra boys also won the 4x400 meter relay (3:46) and Jason Parker won leapt his way to the high jump win with a leap of 5'10. 

Doniphan West Mustang girls and boys each took third as teams but the Mustangs had nine event wins on the day between the girls and boys. Four of those wins came from one gal as Kenzie Blevins continued her strong start to the track season by taking gold in the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 13.37 and 29.10, while leaping to wins in the long jump (15'11) and triple jump (33'06). Carson Lackey sprinted to a pair of golds in the boys 100 and 200 meter dashes behind times of 11.22 and 24.12, while Kody Collins won the 110 meter hurdles (15.74) and the Mustang boys won the 4x100 meter relay (46.02). Alyssa Clark also took home a gold winning the girls javelin with a toss of 115'05. 

The host Oskaloosa Bears enjoyed a strong day with both the girls and boys each taking second place as a team and eight first place finishes helped that happen. For the boys Dillon Grother won both the 300 meter hurdles (42.82) and triple jump (41'05), while Ben Harvey took the gold in the discus (127'08) and Justin Cross won the javelin (153'07). The lady Bears had Brittni Pryor win the high jump (4'08), Jaden Courter win the discus (102'03), Alexi Adams take first in the 400 meter dash (1:04) and the 4x100 meter relay team took first (56.24). 

Tristan Funk led McLouth's performances on the day as he won both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs in the boy’s competition posting times of 5:00.09 and 11:14. While on the girls side of action Jenna Johnston and Ceara Funk each grabbed a gold medal winning the 100 meter hurdles (18.46) and 3200 meter run (13:57), respectively. 

JCN Chargers had two first place finishers on the day as Joel Abel won the boys long jump with a leap of 18'11.25 and the lady Chargers 4x800 meter relay team took first with a time of 13:00.20. 

Valley Falls and Pleasant Ridge each had one gold medalist on the days competition at the Oskaloosa Invitational. For the Dragons it was a first place finish in the boys 4x800 meter relay with a time of 9:20, while Nick Silvers won the shot put for the Pleasant Ridge boys with a toss of 40'02.
