Centralia Girls & Frankfort Boys Win Valley Heights Track Invite Titles

Full Valley Heights Track Invitational Results (4-5-16) - Girls results & Boys results 

The track season opened for some schools on Tuesday and continued for a few others as several Twin Valley League schools along with a few other competed against each other at the Valley Heights track Invitational. 

Both teams that came out on top at the end of the day started the track season with teams wins in their first competition and continued that trend at the Valley Heights Invitational as the Centralia girls and Frankfort boys both won the team titles on the day. The lady Panthers posted 122 total points easily claiming the top spot over Pawnee City (NE) who took second as a team with 95 points, while the host Valley Heights had 88 points and placed third on the day in the girl’s team standings. Axtell and Linn girls finished fourth and fifth to round out the Top five while, Onaga took sixth, Hanover seventh, Troy eighth, Southern (NE) ninth, Blue Valley-Randolph 10th, Frankfort 11th and St. Xavier 12th. 

In the boys competition it was a bit tighter atop the standings as Frankfort tallied 95.5 points to take first, while Pawnee City boys took second like the girls but were only 9.5 points shy of first. Axtell, Hanover and Valley Heights finished out the Top five placing third, fourth and fifth, respectively while Onaga took sixth, Southern (NE) seventh, Centralia eighth, Blue Valley-Randolph ninth and Troy 10th. 

Eight first place finishes led the way for one school on the day at the Valley Heights Invitational and it was the host Mustangs accomplishing that feat. Kayla Smith led the charge with three gold medals on the day winning the 100 meter dash (12.90), long jump (16'02) and triple jump (36'01.50), while Shelby Vermetten snatched up a pair of first place finishes throwing her way to wins in the shot put (36'03) and discus (126'03). The Mustang boys had Adrian Pishny post a time of 10:59.90 to win the 3200 meter run, while Anthony Edwards won the high jump with a leap of 6'00. Both Pishny and Edwards also teamed up with Alex Hardin and Jeremy Reed to win the 4x800 meter relay behind a time of 8:58.50. 

Pawnee City and Axtell each had six first place finishes on the day. For Pawnee City Mariah Willey swept the girls hurdles win the 100 and 300 meter hurdles with times of 16.00 and 52.30, while Miranda Branek won the 1600 meter run (6:12.30). The Pawnee City boys snagged the gold in the 4x800 meter relay (3:46.70), while Ted Gyhra won the 110 meter hurdles (17.50) and Andrew Davis took the gold in the discus (129'03.50).

Axtell Eagles had four of their six first place finishes come in the girls competition as Bradie Schmitz won the 400 meter dash (1:04.00) and Kiersten Talbot won the 800 meter run (2:43.20) and both teamed up with Courtney Heinen and Chelsea Smith to win the 4x400 (4:28.60) and 4x800 (11:00.60) meter relays. In the boys action Brice Koch brought home first in the 400 meter dash (55.00) and Caleb Heiman won the 300 meter hurdles (43.90). 

Four first place finishes helped pace the Frankfort boys to a first place team finish with Ryan Kraushaar leading the way as he won the javelin (149'11) and 200 meter dash (24.40), while also partnering with Christian Jackson, Riley Ahlvers and Jase Suther to win the 4x100 meter relay (46.80). Sheldon Parthemer earned the other Frankfort gold winning the pole vault with a vault of 12'06. 

Both Centralia and Hanover each had three first place finishes. For the lady Panthers of Centralia they all came in the girl’s competition helping them win the team title on the day. Sadie Jones paced her way to a time of 12:27.70 to win the 3200 meter run, while Breanna Schmitz won the pole vault (9'00) and Madison Lueger claimed the gold in the javelin (104'01). 

Hanover had Devin Jueneman win a pair of gold medals, winning the 100 meter dash (11.80) and triple jump (41'07.50), while the lady Wildcats 4x100 meter relay team of Paige, Macy and Riley Doebele and Taylor Klipp posted a time of 55.80 to take the gold. 

Blue Valley-Randolph had one event winner on the day as Chase Carey won the boys 1600 meter run with a time of 4:56.20.
