It was the second go around on the court for Axtell and Hanover on Friday night and unlike the first time the Axtell girls came out on top winning 66-60, while in the boys contest Hanover won again but had to fend off a late run by Axtell to grab the 72-64 victory.

The lead traded hands several times throughout the first half with Axtell holding a 16-15 advantage after one quarter but Hanover made a push with a 22-16 second frame and led 37-32 at the half. The Eagles would fly in the third quarter outscoring Hanover 16-4 and went on a 6-0 run that gave them the 41-40 lead with 4:16 remaining in the third and that lead would stand up as they would not give it up on their way to the 66-60 win. Axtell with the loss avenged an early season loss to Hanover in overtime in that game.

Axtell with the win improves to 12-3 on the season and 7-1 in the League as this time around the game counted as a League contest. Courtney Heinen led the Eagles with 19 points, while it was a pretty balanced scoring attack after that for Axtell with Bradie Schmitz posting 13 points, both Megan Buessing and Kiersten Talbot notching nine points and Anna Buessing scoring eight. Schmitz contributed in every quarter at least two points and with her 13 points earned Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA.

The loss sends Hanover to 9-5 on the season and 4-2 in the TVL, while also putting the Wildcats in the midst of a three-game losing streak. Ashton Jueneman paced Hanover with 19 points, while Riley Doebele added 16 points and Macy Doebele scored 13 points.

Hanover boys jumped out early and led 16-10 at the end of the first quarter and added to the lead going into intermission holding a 37-24 lead. Axtell got the lead to within 11 points and 10 points but couldn't break it down into single digits until late in the fourth quarter and with fouls to stretch out the game the Eagles tried to stay in it getting as close as seven points but ultimate the early deficit was too much and Hanover picked up the 72-64 win.

Michael Jueneman put on a scoring show dropping a season high 32 points, hitting four three's in the game and scoring 14 in the final quarter to help the Wildcats secure the win. Trey Loshe added 16 points, while Devin Jueneman notched 10 points and Hanover moved to 10-4 on the season and 5-1 in TVL play.

Axtell with the loss fell to 8-8 on the year and 5-3 in League action as 15 points from Adam Kuckelman led the Eagles on the night. Brice Koch and Kaleb Buessing chipped in 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Hanover hits the court again next Tuesday against Washington County, while Axtell will take to the court once again next Friday at Onaga.
