Following mid season tournaments, Friday marked the return of regular season Big 7 play and the second time through the round robin schedule.  In a rematch from the first games of the season, the Sabetha girls remained perfect in League play with a 59-41 victory at Holton, however the Bluejays boys suffered their first loss and was upset by the Wildcats 47-38.

GIRLS = Sabetha 59, Holton 41

Coming off their first loss of the year, but their highest scoring game (82-71 Paola) in the Burlington Tourney, the #2 ranked Sabetha girls jumped to a quick 16-6 lead and never looked back in route to the win.  Holton went more than four minutes within a basket in the second quarter and trailed 31-19 at halftime.  The Lady Cats cut the deficit to 44-34 entering the fourth quarter, before Sabetha put the game away with a 10-0 run and held Holton to another four minute scoring drought.

The Lady Jays had a huge rebounding advantage and dominated inside as Emily Meyer scored 17 points and Mariah Huneke added 15 with both girls scoring in all four quarters.  Taryn Schuette added 11 points and Alexis McAfee was close to a triple double with 10 points, 12 rebounds plus a handful of steals and assists. Sabetha improved to 12-1 overall and 9-0 in the Big 7 also making 11 of 15 free throws.  Holton got 12 points from Shay Tanking while Ashlyn Weilert and Sarah Lierz added 7 each before the Cats dropped to 7-6 overall with their third straight loss and 6-3 in the League after committing 15 turnovers.

BOYS = Holton 47, Sabetha 38

Sabetha had won 37 consecutive games in the Big 7 League, but never had a lead in a let-down game following their season high 76-63 win over Rock Creek in the Burlington Tourney championship.  The Jays had a tough shooting night and made only 2 of 15 three pointers while Holton was very patient and controlled the tempo and possessions. The Wildcats led 16-5 after one quarter before a 9-1 Sabetha run closed the gap to four at halftime.  AJ Haussler, who hit a three pointer for Holton to start the game, nailed another trey to start the second half and Holton stretched the margin to 30-23 entering the fourth quarter.  Sabetha battled foul trouble and scoring leaders Brock Frey and Calder Keehn both fouled out in the final period.  Holton made 15 free throws in the final minutes to secure the upset win and avenge a 32 point loss that started the year.

Haussler scored 17 points and made 7 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter while Big 7 scoring leader, Bryson Patch connected on 10 of 13 foul shots in the fourth to finsh with 25 points.  The Wildcats improved to 4-9 overall and 3-6 in the League with all but five points coming from AJ and Bryson.  Sabetha was led by Keehn with 15 points while Frey had 9 but nobody else made more than one field goal.  The #2 ranked Bluejays are now 12-1 overall and 8-1 in the Big 7, suffering their first League loss since February 19th of 2013, which was also against Holton.
