Valley Falls, Rossville Highlight Day Two of JCN Invitational Tournament

Championship Semifinal #1 JCN vs. Rossville

Backed by a hot start, the Rossville Lady Dawgs advanced to the championship of the annual JCN Girls Invitational Tournament Friday night with a 61-42 win over Jefferson County North in Winchester.

The Lady Dawgs (10-2) wasted no time jumping all over the Lady Chargers (5-6) early. Junior Amanda Hill dropped in 13 first quarter points to give Rossville a commanding 26-10 lead after one with most of the damage done in the paint.

JCN made runs throughout the second quarter and into the second half, but the Lady Dawgs answered every Lady Charger run to keep the lead double digits, and out of reach.

Championship Semifinal #2 Valley Falls vs. Perry Lecompton

Despite a double-digit turnover night, the Valley Falls Lady Dragons kept their undefeated season alive by advancing to the JCN Tournament Championship with a 44-22 win over Perry Lecompton.

The Lady Dragons (11-0) started things off with a quick 7-0 run and held Perry (3-9) to just three first quarter points to lead 10-3 after the first.

Both offenses came alive in the second quarter with Valley Falls taking a 24-13 lead into the break, behind six second quarter points by senior Sydney Gish.

The Lady Dragons extended the lead to 20 after three by forcing the Lady Kaws into seven third quarter turnovers to put the game away.

Consolation Semifinal #1 ACCHS vs. Cornerstone

After a rough first half, the ACCHS Lady Tigers rebounded with a strong second half to get by Cornerstone Friday night in Nortonville 46-35.

The Lady Tigers failed to hit double digits in either of the first two quarters, allowing the Lady Saints to take an 18-15 lead into the break.

ACCHS turned it on in the second half, outscoring Cornerstone 31-17 to advance to the consolation championship.

ACCHS: Mallory Eckert – 17, Lucy Kearney – 16, Katie Beien – 9, Madison Martin – 2, Jaycee Ernzen – 2.

Cornerstone: Anna Holloway – 15, Allison Holloway – 9, Michaela Bryant – 7, Olivia Hamilton – 4.

Consolation Semifinal #2 Oskaloosa vs. Osawatomie

After struggling early, the Oskaloosa Lady Bears got hot late to sneak out their fourth win of the year, 35-34 over Osawatomie.

The Lady Trojans found themselves clicking on all cylinders to start the ballgame leading 23-14 at halftime after holding Oskaloosa to single-digit first and second quarters.

The Lady Bears then used their defense to get back into the game out the break, holding Osawatomie to just four third quarter points to cut the deficit to five heading into the fourth.

Oskaloosa hit their free throws down the stretch to pull off the comeback finishing the game 6 of 12 from the charity stripe, while the Lady Trojans were just 4-for-12.

Saturday matchups: 7th place – Cornerstone vs. Osawatomie at noon; 5th place – ACCHS vs. Oskaloosa at 1:30 pm; 3rd place (KAIR TV) – JCN vs. Perry Lecompton at 3 pm; championship (KAIR TV) – Valley Falls vs. Rossville at 4:30 pm.
