Hiawatha Girls Win 3A Riley County Cross Country Regional, While ACCHS Girls Take Third

The Riley County Class 3A cross country Regional had a Big Seven League flavor to it on Saturday as runners competed for a spot at the State competition next Saturday and many area runners earned that right. 

Leading the way for the area was the Hiawatha Red Hawk girls who cruised to the Regional title by 24 points, posting 37 total points as a team. Elizabeth Kettler led the Red Hawks winning an individual Regional title behind a time of 20:53.22, while Emma Williams earned a tenth place finish at Regionals with a time of 21:42.95. Finishing out the team score for Hiawatha was Aly Shamburg, Mary Rosa and Kailey Davis who finished 11th, 15th and 22nd, respectively. While, Molly Kettler and Jada Rosa also competed for the Red Hawks and finsihed 25th and 28th. One boys competitor is also headed to State for Hiawatha as Brandt Houk with a time of 17:47.94 placed sixth to earn a spot at State. 

The ACCHS lady Tigers are taking their team to State after finishing third as a team at the Riley County Regional, missing out on second by only six points. Madison Bissel led the way with a fourth place finish behind a time of 21:35.99, while Beba Scholz raced to a time of 21:27.38 to finish sixth. Mackenzie Forbes, Maddison Forbes and Erin Hamilton rounded out the Tigers team score with their finishes of 20th, 32nd and 40th, while Caitlyn Fuller and Malia Hawk each also ran for the Tigers finishing 45th and 49th. 

A trio of Sabetha Bluejays are flying to the Class 3A State cross country competition after Top 10 finishes on Saturday. Taryn Schuette and Megan Meyer registered third and eighth place finishes in the girls race with times of 21:13.93 and 21:35.99 to earn State spots, while Keegan Cox posted a time of 18:01.83 to finish tenth and earn a State spot. 

Coe Hinton and Triston Hinton are both headed to State after taking fifth and seventh place, respectively as they posted times of 17:44.00 and 17:48.65. 

Marysville, Royal Valley and Nemaha Central also competed at the Riley County Regional but did not have a runner qualify for State. 

The State qualifying runners now turn their attention to the Class 3A State competition on Saturday, October 31st in Lawrence at Rim Rock.
