The lady Falcons of Baileyville-B&B had soared to yet again another great season and state volleyball appearance in the Class 1A-Division II state tourney where they defend their state title and came out on top as state champs yet again.
Falcons made it to the second day of action punching their ticket to the semifinals with a perfect pool play Friday going 3-0. The Falcons started off the morning's action disposing of Elyria Christian pretty quick in a straight win for the Falcons 25-11, 25-19. After a break the Falcons hit the court again this time taking on a Wheatland-Grinnell team that had just earned a three set win. B&B would continue cruising along to win set one easily 25-13, but set two was a different story as Wheatland-Grinnell trade blows with B&B in the second set throughout but the Falcons ultimately grabbed the set 25-22.
B&B capped off pool play with their hardest test so far in the state volleyball tournament as the Ingalls Bulldogs forced the Falcons to three sets. It looked like B&B was cruising along once again with a 25-11 first set win, but Ingalls showed they would not just fold to the defending state champs. Bulldogs took set number two 25-23. Well that got B&B 's attention enough to grasp control of set three and not look back winning it 25-13 and finishing pool play 3-0.
With the 3-0 pool play finish the Falcons set up to play Weskan who finished second in the other pool at the state tourney. B&B made quick work of Weskan in the semifinals dispatching them in straight sets 25-13, 25-15. That set up a one seed versus two seed in the Class 1A-Division II championship game. B&B the one seed took on Argonia the two seed who beat Wheatland-Grinnell in their semifinal match.
It wouldn't be easy for B&B and they needed three sets but they came out victorious beating Argonia 25-18, 24-26, 25-18 to defend their Class 1A-DII state title. The lady Falcons control set number one, but Argonia would do the same in set two, until B&B made a late push to tie it at 21-21 in set two. Both teams had set points as they trade points late, until Argonia strung consecutive points together to take the set 26-24. B&B would not be rattled as they responded in set three 25-18, going on an early huge run to take control of the set and the cruise to the win.
Falcons make it back-to-back state titles and three state titles under head coach, Jessica Koch. Lady Falcons who registered a school record 40 wins last year hit that mark for the second straight year finishing the season 40-5 with a 5-0 performance at state. B&B has been dominate in many sports and volleyball is one of them and they will now look to next year as they only graduate three seniors.
