A trio of Twin Valley League teams hit the volleyball court on Saturday in the Republic County Invitational and it was Clifton-Clyde picking up the best area performance as the Eagles finished fourth, while Hanover took fifth and Linn eighth in the tournament. 

The tournament started off with pool in which Hanover and Linn were partnered up in the Red pool. The Wildcats picked up a pair of wins in the pool going 2-1 but missed out on the winner’s bracket by the tiebreaker. Hanover earned wins against Linn (25-22, 25-20) and Smith Center (25-23, 21-25, 25-21), while falling to Republic County (23-25, 24-26). Linn went 0-3 in pool play falling to Hanover, Republic County (20-25, 21-25) and Smith Center (19-25, 25-27). 

In the Blue pool Clifton-Clyde notched a 2-1 performance to take second in the pool and move into the winners bracket action. The Eagles picked up wins against Pike Valley (25-17, 25-23) and Thayer Central (21-25, 25-17, 25-16), while falling to Beloit (9-25, 13-25). 

In the consolation bracket action Hanover beat Pike Valley (25-12, 25-21) and Linn fell to Thayer Central (25-21, 25-22) in the consolation semifinals. The Wildcats then finished the day by taking fifth place at Republic County Invitational with a straight win over Thayer Central (25-22, 25-20). Linn finished their day in the seventh place match, but came up short falling to Pike Valley (22-25, 13-25).

Clifton-Clyde in the Semifinals took on Smith Center and it was a tough three set contest with Smith Center just getting the better of the Eagles (16-25, 25-13, 25-15). The Eagles then set up to play Republic County for third place and finished the day with the straight set loss (29-27, 25-22) to take fourth place.
