The Holton Wildcats volleyball squad stepped outside the area and the Big Seven League on Saturday to compete in the Rossville Invitational, along several top notch teams as the tournament featured five ranked teams from the KVA polls. At the end of a tough day of competition which featured four three set matches for Holton the Wildcats posted a record of 3-3 and earned fourth place. 

Holton started the day off in pool play were they went 3-1 to earn second in Pool A as they outdueled Rossville (25-17, 24-26, 25-17), Wamego (22-25, 25-23, 25-23) and El Dorado (25-21, 21-25, 25-23) all in three sets, while falling to De soto (25-18, 25-23) in straight sets. One win in pool play was against a fellow ranked team in the KVA polls as the #1 4A-DII team in Holton beat #10 team in 4A-DI in Wamego. 

Silver Lake won Pool B, while Abilene finished second place in the pool to earn spots in the Semifinals. 

In the Semifinals, Holton took on the #1 Class 3A team in Silver Lake and the Eagles got the better of Holton in straight sets (25-17, 25-14), while De soto beat Abilene in the other Semifinal matchup. 

The Semifinal loss put Holton in the third place match to wrap up the tournament and they would take on the #5 4A-DI team in Abilene in the contest. It would be another three set affair for Holton but this time it was their opponent earning the win as Abilene won in three sets (25-21, 21-25, 25-14). 

The Wildcats are now 10-6 on the season and will host Jeff West in Big Seven League action on Tuesday, September 22nd for their next action.
