Many Area Teams Notch Top Performers at Holton Cross Country Invite

Several area teams converged at Holton Country Club on Thursday and competed against each other in cross country action and several notched top flight performances in the competition.

For the girls it was Hiawatha with the best team performance finishing second behind meet winner, Tonganoxie the Red Hawks were led by their Top four finishers placing in the Top 13. ACCHS, Royal Valley and Holton finished with team places of fourth, fifth and seventh in the girls competition. Leading the way in the boy's competition was McLouth as a team finishing third behind Tonganoxie who won the meet and Abilene who finished second. Hiawatha and Royal Valley rounded out the boys Top five team performances taking fourth and fifth, respectively, while Jackson Heights and Maur Hill finished sixth and seventh, Cornstone placed eighth and Holton ninth.

The top individual spot in the boys race was picked up by earned by Jack Siebert of Maur Hill-Mount Academy who behind a time of 18:15.44 took the gold, while Perry Lecompton Kaw, Lexia Jamison took first in the girls race with a time of 21:27.91. Both schools had one other Top 20 finisher on the day as Grace Siebert finished 10th for Maur Hill behind a time of 23:19.72, while Bjorn Funk raced to a 17th place finish for Perry Lecompton.

Hiawatha who picked up the best team performance with a second place girls finish led by Elizabeth Kettler who posted a time of 22:22.78 to finish sixth, while Aly Shamburg placed ninth with a time of 23:07.47. Emma Williams and Molly Kettler notched 12th and 13th place finishes for the lady Red Hawks, while best individual Hiawatha performance came by Brandt Houk who finished second in the boys race with a time of 18:22.4, while Gavin Lierz placed seventh behind a time of 18:53.40.

McLouth, Riverside, ACCHS, Jackson Heights and Royal Valley all had Top 20 finishers at the Holton Invitational. 

The Bulldogs were led by Tristan Funk who raced to an 11th place finish helping the McLouth boys take third as a team, while Braedan Pfau grabbed a 13th place finish for the Bulldogs. Ceara Funk picked up the top lady Bulldog finish placing 16th on the day. 

Riverside had a pair of Top 20 finishers in the boys race with Cole Hinton leading the charge as he finished fifth with a time of 18:50.88, while Triston Hinton raced a to a 12th place finish. 

For ACCHS their top performance came in the girls competition as Beba Scholz raced to a seventh place finish behind the time of 22:51.28, while Jackson Heights had a pair of Top 20 finishers in the girls race as Faith Little posted a time of 21:45.00 to earn fourth place and Hanna Davault raced to 15th place. 

Three Royal Valley Panthers picked up Top 20 finishes as Kaytlyn Gooderl and Kiikto Thomas posted finishes of 17th and 19th in the girls competition and Darius Frisby raced to a 20th place finish in the boys race. 

Holton also competed on the day as they were the host of the action but did not finish with any Top 20 finishers, as a 34th place finish by Abbigail Hundley led the Wildcat performances.
