Jeff West & Perry Lecompton Start Track Season at Baldwin Invitational

A pair of Big Seven teams opened the their track and field season's back on Thursday, as Jeff West and Perry Lecompton competed at the Baldwin Invitational.

The Perry Lecompton boys had the best team performance of the area schools finishing seventh, while Jeff West girls took eighth and both the Perry Lecompton and Jeff West boys finished 11th out of 12 teams. Baldwin the host won both the girls and boys team titles at their home meet.

Best area individual performance came by Cole Kellum of Perry Lecompton who sprinted his way to a time of 53.09 to win the 400 meter dash. Four second place finishes were earned by the Kaws as Torin VanNest finished second in the 300 meter hurdles, while Austin Kurtz grabbed second place in the javelin and the boys 4x400 meter relay team also placed second. In the girl’s side of competition, Abbi Folks had the best Perry Lecompton finish, placing second in the triple jump. Cody Williams took third in the 200 meter dash and placed fourth in the 100 meter dash, while the Kaws boy’s 4x100 meter relay team placed fourth and Taylor Ball took fifth in the girl’s shot put.

The Jeff West Tigers were led by a pair of second place finishes at the Baldwin Invitational as Makenzie Tucker finished second in the 2000 meter steeplechase and Triston Giltner leapt his way to second in the high jump. Michael Majors picked up third place in the shot put and finished fourth in the discus, while Janelle Debus and Makayla Greene each placed fourth in the high jump and discus, respectively.

Jeff West and Perry Lecompton continue their track seasons on Tuesday in Big Seven Quad action in Hiawatha and Royal Valley, respectively.
