Washington County Boys Fall in Semifinals in 2A, While Play for Third

After a first round win the Washington County Tigers drew the defending Class 2A State Champs in St. John-Hudson in the Semifinals and after getting an early hole the Tigers were never able to claw back into the game falling 71-53.

St. John-Hudson won the battle of the Tigers as they pounced early on Washington County using a 25-9 first quarter and didn't look back as Washington County was unable to get back into the game. The lead grew to 42-22 at the half and St. John-Hudson behind 50.9% shooting and a trio guys in double figures pushed themselves to the win over Washington County 71-53. St. John-Hudson was led by Cole Kinnamon who scored 22 points, while Dean Wade added 15 points and Jorge Calleros chipped in 10 points.

Washington County with the loss fell to 21-4 on the season and will vie for third place in Class 2A. Konnor Penning led Washington County in the loss with 17 points, while Cole Thompson and Kyle McGatlin each chipped in 12 points apiece.

Up next Washington County will play the number one seed Olpe, who suffered their first loss of the season in the Semifinals to Central Plains 69-44, for third place at 2:00pm on Saturday in Manhattan at Bramlage Coliseum.
