Back to State for the first time since winning the State title in Class 1A-DII just two years ago the Axtell Eagles got the eight seed and had to face off against the defending State Champion, St. John's-Tipton Bluejays in Dodge City. While the Eagles put together a strong effort the Axtell fell 57-45 to end their season.

Both teams started the competition struggling to get buckets to fall as Axtell shot just 24.1% in the first half and St. John's-Tipton only shot 29.6% from the floor, but led 22-18 at the half. The Bluejays added to their lead behind a 19-14 third quarter but the Eagles continued to claw to stay in the game, ultimately falling 57-45. The shooting picked up efficiency wise in the second half for both teams but Axtell finished the game shooting just 29.5% from the field (18-61) and only 22.2% from three-point range (6-27), while St. Joh's-Tipton also went 13-16 from the free throw line compared to on 3-6 from Axtell.

The loss wraps up the season for the Axtell Eagles as they cap off their year finishing 12-12 and were led by Andrew Feldkamp in the loss as he posted 12 points and six rebounds. Shane Talbot tallied 10 points and four assists, while Adam Kuckelman grabbed 11 rebounds and notched eight points.
