KBCA Releases Latest Rankings With 17 Area Teams Ranked -- Feb. 16th

Two weeks remain in the regular season of the high school basketball season and area teams continue to make moves not only towards postseason play but in the latest KBCA rankings also as 16 area teams are in the rankings this week.

Class 4A-DII continues to house three Big Seven League teams this week as both the Holton Wildcat girls and boys continue to remain ranked and the Royal Valley boys, also. The Panther boys come in as the highest area ranked team in 4A-DII this week, as Royal Valley checks in at sixth, up two spots in the polls this week at 11-4 on the year after a win over Riverside last week. The Holton boys also moved up two spots this week in the polls to eighth, after moving to 10-6 on the season with wins over Riverside and ACCHS last week. The Holton girls are also 10-6 on the season and won a pair of games last week over ACCHS and Riverside and remained ranked eighth this week in the polls.

The Sabetha Bluejays and Nemaha Central Thunder continue to highlight the Class 3A rankings for the area. The Sabetha boys improved to 15-1 last week with road wins over ACCHS and Hiawatha and jumped up one spot to third in the rankings this week, while the lady Bluejays went 1-1 last week with a win over ACCHS and loss at Hiawatha to move to 14-2 on the year and fell three spots to eighth in the polls. While the Nemaha Central Thunder boys have had a presence in the polls all season and remain ranked eighth this week after posting wins against Perry Lecompton and Hiawatha to move to 14-2 on the season.

FIve area teams are ranked in Class 2A this week as both the Washington County lady Tigers and the lady Dragons of Valley Falls each remained ranked, as did the Jackson Heights boys and the Washington County boys rejoined the rankings, while the Troy Trojan boys joined the rankings. The lady Tigers continue to check in at third in the rankings and sit at 16-1 on the season after wins against Washington County and Onaga last week, the Tiger boys also picked up win against both of those teams to improve to 14-3 on the year and jump back into the poll, coming in at eighth. The Valley Falls Dragons picked up big wins over Maur Hill and JCN last week and improved to 13-2 on the season and remain ranked eighth this week. While the Jackson Heights boys jumped two spots this week in the polls moving to sixth in the polls, after moving to 14-2 on the season beating Pleasant Ridge and Oskaloosa last week.Troy jumped into the rankings at seventh this week after picking up wins against Centralia and Linn last week to move to 15-3 on the season.

The 1A-Division I polls added another area team this week to the rankings meaning five Twin Valley League teams are in the rankings in 1A-DI. The Centralia lady Panthers continue to rank third in the polls as they are 13-2 on the year after wins over Troy and Clifton-Clyde, while the Panther boys fell in the polls down one spot to seventh after to 10-5 on the year with a loss at Troy and win over Clifton-Clyde last week. The Hanover Wildcat boys continue to remain atop the 1A-DI rankings as they are still unbeaten on the year at 15-0, after beating Frankfort last week. The Valley Heights boys also continued to remain in the rankings coming in at eighth yet again this week, after splitting their games last week, falling to Washington County but beating Wetmore to move to 11-7 on the year. Doniphan West joined the rankings this week for the first time this year as the Mustangs picked up three wins last week beating Blue Valley, Wetmore and Falls City Sacred Heart to move to 12-6 on the year and come in at fifth in the polls.

The lady Eagles of Axtell continue to remain the only area team in the rankings in Class 1A-Division II as they check in at fifth yet again this week. The Eagles took a loss in their lone game last week falling to Pawnee City, moving them to 14-4 on the year.

With only a few games left in the regular season teams are looking for momentum to close out the season and head into postseason play riding a winning streak.
