Seven Area 8-Man Football Players Make 8-Man Football All-Star Game

The annual 8-Man All-Star games in Kansas are set for June 6th this summer at Trojan Field in Beliot and seven area players were selected to compete in the Division I and II games and two area coaches will coach in the game.

After a 12-1 season and finishing runner-up in 8-Man Division I the Hanover Wildcats have three players selected to compete in the 8-Man Division I All-Star game for the Division I East squad. Andrew Bruna led the Wildcat offense and in his senior year was 90-134 for 1,906 yards with 36 touchdown passes and only six interceptions, while rushing for 813 yards on 133 carries with 25 touchdowns and one receiving touchdown. Bruna added seven tackles, a sack and forced fumble on defense this past year.

Evan Zabokrtsky and Ethan Fristchi both were selected to the All-Star game, also after strong senior years and careers for the Wildcats. Zabokrtsky caught 20 touchdown passes this past year on 33 receptions for 996 yards, while rushing for 76 yards on four carries with a touchdown, while on defense accounting for 63 tackles, eight sacks, an interception, two fumbles recoveries and blocked punt. Fristchi on offense blocked on the line for an offense that posted 4,826 total yards, while on defense notching 54 tackles, six sacks, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and three blocked punts.

Four more Twin Valley League players will be playing in the All-Star game also all suiting up for the 8-Man Division II East squad, as a pair of Axtell Eagles and pair of Linn Bulldogs were selected to the All-Star games. While Axtell Eagle coach, Eric Detweiler and Blue Valley coach, Matt Schreiber will coach in the game; as Detweiler will be an assistant on the DII East squad and Schreiber will be the head coach.

The Axtell Eagles had a strong season going 9-3 and making the 8-Man Division II Sub-State level in the postseason for the first time since 2008. Helping lead the way were Shane Talbot and Andrew Feldkamp and both guys earned a spot in the All-Star game. Talbot posted over 1,200 yards of total offense, rushing for 603 yards on 95 carries with 14 touchdowns and catching 43 passes for 665 yards with nine touchdowns. Shane made an impact in the return game with 573 return yards and a return touchdown, while registering 126 tackles on defense with four interceptions and return touchdown. Feldkamp on offense blocked for an offense that posted 3,972 total yards, while on defense picking up 53 tackles and a blocked punt.

Linn Bulldogs Chad Gross and Grant Cook both were also selected to the All-Star game after helping Linn to a 4-5 record this past year and accounting for 61.1% of the team's offense during the year. Gross caught 37 passes for 801 yards with six touchdowns while adding a rushing touchdown. Cook on offense caught 28 passes for 458 yards and 10 touchdowns and ran for 118 yards on 26 carries with three scores. Both made a big impact on defense for Linn, also as Cook had 91 tackles with two fumble recoveries and an interception, while Gross posted 45 tackles with two interceptions, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

The seven area 8-Man football stars will represent their schools one final time on the football field in the All-Star games on Saturday, June 6th in Beloit at Trojan field.
