KBCA Releases Latest Rankings With 15 Area Teams Ranked -- Feb. 1st

As mid-season tournament are all in the books and the calendar has turned to February the season starts to get down to crunch time for setting up them for a good seed in Sub-State. This week 15 area teams find themselves ranked by the KBCA with a few on the move in the polls.

Class 4A-DII the boys poll continues to house three area teams to all will play in the same Sub-State come postseason play. The Atchison Redmen boys led the way for the area teams in the rankings this week again as they come in at sixth with an 8-5 record, falling down one spot this week after going 1-1 last week with a loss to Eudora and win against Silver Lake. Both the Holton and Royal Valley boys remained ranked at eighth and ninth, respectively this week as they are 7-6 and 9-4 on the season. Holton boys took a loss to Sabetha in their lone game last week, while Royal Valley picked up a win against Jeff West last week. The Holton lady Wildcats also remain in the 4A-DII rankings checking in again at eighth with a 7-6 record after falling to Sabetha last week.

The Sabetha Bluejay girls and boys and Nemaha Central Thunder boys continue to highlight the Class 3A rankings for area teams, as all three remain ranked this week. The Sabetha girls after topping Holton last week improved to 12-1 on the year and remained ranked fifth, while the Bluejay boys remain ranked second after also improving to 12-1 on the year with a win over Holton. For Nemaha Central the boys beat Riverside at home last Friday to move to 11-2 on the year and remain ranked ninth this week.

All three area teams ranked in Class 2A moved down in the polls this week as both Washington County boys and girls teams went down, as did the Valley Falls girls. The Tiger boys tumbled down three spots to tenth in the rankings after splitting last week, beating Doniphan West but falling to Hanover to move to 11-3 on the year. While the lady Tigers are 13-1 on the season after beating Hanover and Doniphan West last week but moved down one spot to fourth this week in the rankings. For the Valley Falls Dragons they suffered their second loss of the season last week but responded to beat JCN for third place at the JCN Invite and are now 10-2 on the season, but fell two spots in the poll to eighth this week.

Class 1A-Division I houses the largest leap for an area team this week as the lady Panthers of Centralia shot up four spots to third in the rankings as they are 10-1 on the season. Centralia was idle last week after winning the TVL tournament the previous week and is currently riding a 10-game winning streak. On the boys side of the poll Hanover, Centralia and Valley Heights all continue to remain ranked. The Hanover boys continue to remain unbeaten on the year moving to 13-0 after beating Washington County and Axtell last week and remain ranked number one. While, Centralia boys moved down one spot to third in the polls after an idle week and are 9-2 on the season. The Valley Heights boys picked up a win over Linn last week moving to 9-5 on the year and jumped up one spot to seventh in the polls.

In Class 1A-Division II the lady Eagles of Axtell continue to be the only area team in the rankings as they move up one spot this week to seventh with their 13-3 record. Axtell picked up a road win at Hanover last week in their only game action last week.

The season rolls along with teams sights firmly on setting themselves up for postseason play and Sub-State action for a chance to get to the State tournament.
