ACCHS Claims 27th Annual Jefferson County North Invitational
By Jonny Kane

The 27th Annual Jefferson County North Invitational wrapped up on Saturday afternoon with three games that each saw one-sided victors.

1st Place : ACCHS 50, Cornerstone 23

The heavily favored ACCHS Lady Tigers went up against the Cornerstone Family School Saints in the championship game and the Lady Tigers did not disappoint. ACCHS got off to a hot start taking a 15-9 advantage after the first quarter and a 28-12 lead at the half.

The Lady Tigers started quickly once again in the third quarter outscoring Cornerstone 17-6 to take a 27 point lead into the final frame. At this point ACCHS only needed a  three point bucket to make the final quarter have a running clock. The Lady Tigers got it just a minute into the fourth on a shot by Mallory Eckert to allow ACCHS to run out the rest of the clock for a 50-23 championship game victory.

Rachel Newquist led the charge for ACCHS in the win as the senior scored 7 of her 11 points in the first half while fellow senior Lillie Holtgrave finished not far behind with 10 points of her own. ACCHS moved to 11-2 on the season and will next be in action on Tuesday when they play host to Royal Valley.

3rd Place : Valley Falls 44, Jefferson County North 29

The third place game started out as an offensive struggle with the first points of the ballgame not coming until three minutes in. After a slow paced first quarter for both sides Valley Falls got things going as they used an 11-5 second quarter to take a 21-12 lead into the locker room. The Lady Dragons then stretched that lead to 18 points after three en route to a 44-29 victory to claim third place and move to 10-2 overall on the season.

Ali Brown led the scoring for Valley as the junior finished with 14 points on a 9 for 9 effort from the charity stripe, while the team as a whole finished 18-26. Lyndsey Vittitow led the scoring for the Lady Chargers as she finished with just seven points.

5th Place : Perry-Lecompton 53, Oskaloosa 29

The Lady Kaws had a quick turnaround after dropping a heart breaker the night before to Valley Falls which put them up against Oskaloosa in the fifth place game. Perry led start to finish in the contest as the Lady Bears never could close the gap after a slow start allowing Perry to cruise to a 53-29 win giving them fifth place.
