Holton Wrestlers Take Second at Home Invitational While Three Other Area Teams Compete

The Holton Wildcats hosted their annual Sadowski Tournament back on Saturday and welcomed 14 other teams to town to compete on the mats.

Three other area teams competed along with Holton on the mats on Saturday and it was the host Holton Wildcats posting the best area performance as a team with a second place showing posting 183.5 points. Holton finished only behind Shawnee Heights who posted 215.5 points to win the tournament. Pleasant Ridge, Onaga and Oskaloosa all competed placing 10th, 11th and 12th.

Four first place finishes paced Holton on the day as Kegan Meister (285lbs), Mason Baum (170lbs), Lucas Lovvorn (160lbs) and Justin Rieschick (145lbs) all nabbed first place performances. Meister at the heavyweight division registered a 3-0 day with two pinfall wins (3:20 and 2:35), along with a 8-4 decision win. For Mason Baum a 3-0 day carried him to first place as he registered two pinfall wins (1:04 and 4:39), while winning his first place match by major decision 18-9. Lovvorn who ranks number one at 160lbs in Class 4A went 4-0 with three pinfall wins (:58, :36 and 1:51), while winning his Championship bout with a 6-0 decision. Rieschick went 3-0 to claim first place winning all three of his matches by pinfall in 1:16, 2:53 and 5:59.

The top notch performances didn't stop with the four first place finishes for Holton as three Wildcat grapplers earned second place. Spencer Baum (152lbs), Tyler Price (138lbs) and Justin Pool (132lbs) all earned second place finishes as both Baum and Price went 2-1 and Pool posted a 3-1 record. Baum earned a technical fall 15-0 win and a pinfall victory (:46), while Price won via pinfall (:56) and 7-2 decision. For Pool he won via forfeit, pinfall (3:33) and 5-3 decision.

Nathan Shields (220lbs) also had a solid day for the Wildcats finishing fifth place behind a 2-2 record on the mats.

Six Top eight finishes were garnered by Pleasant Ridge Ram wrestlers at the Sadowski Tournament on Saturday with a fourth place finish by Colt Evans (138lbs) leading the way, after he went 2-2 in action. The Ram trio of Devin Dorr (113lbs), Nic Bridges (145lbs), Dustin Graham (182lbs) all earned fifth place finishes after posting records of 1-2, 3-2 and 2-2, respectively. Both Colton Doty (220lbs) and David Medley (285lbs) each earned sixth place finishes, each going 1-3 on the mats.

Three Onaga Buffalo grapplers earned top notch performances all finishing in the Top four on the day. Kyle Ames (182lbs) and Dustin Blow (195lbs) both picked up third place finishes for Onaga as Ames went 3-1 in action and Blow also posted a 3-1 record. Trenton Ross (126lbs) earned fourth place for the Buffalos after going 4-2 on the day.

For Oskaloosa three wrestlers came home with Top eight finishes as a pair of sixth place finishes were earned and a second place finish by Adam Perkins (220lbs) lead the Bears. Perkins posted a 3-1 record on the day with two pinfall wins in 30 and 19 seconds and also won via forfeit. Both Ben Harvey (170lbs) and Tristin Hopkins (106lbs) placed sixth for the Bears going 2-3 and 1-3, respectively.
