The wrestling season got back underway for the Holton Wildcats this past Saturday as they squared off with Spring Hill in a dual competition on the mats. The Wildcats started the 2015 portion of the season with a strong start picking up the 48-24 dual win over the Broncos.
Holton grapplers won six of the varsity matches actually on the mats, while also picking up 12 points with forfeit wins with Spring Hill not have a wrestler at two weight classes. Kegan Meister, Nathan Shields, Kyler Tannahill, Trey Haverkamp, Spencer Baum, Justin Rieschick and Justin Pool all picked up wins on the mats for the Wildcats.
Meister at 285lbs earned a pinfall win in 4:39, while Shields (220lbs), Haverkamp (160lbs), Baum (152lbs) and Pool (132lbs) all registered pinfall wins, also winning in times of 4:30, 1:31, 1:11 and :30, respectively. While, Tannahill (182lbs) and Rieschick (145lbs) won via decision posting a 4-0 and 8-3 decision win, respectively.
The Holton JV team fell 27-3 to Spring Hill with only Ryan Clark (182lbs) earning a match win for Holton, picking up the 3-1 decision on the mats.
Holton hits the mats again on Saturday, January 17th when they take part in the Newton Invitational.
