The Hanover girls picked up their first win of the season on Friday night in Troy, while the Hanover boys won an overtime thriller in a battle of unbeaten teams expected to compete for a Twin Valley League Title.

GIRLS = Hanover 58, Troy 36

Hanover had only scored 52 total points in their first two games combined, but broke out of an offensive slump and never trailed after making their first basket at Troy.  The Lady Cats extended their lead to 28-16 at intermission as 8 different players had scored, and Troy could never pull within single digits in the second half.  Paige Doebele hit two early treys and scored 8 of her 10 points in the first quarter of the game.  Citizens State Bank and Trust Company "Player to Bank On," Katelyn Jueneman, also had 10 for Hanover, who forced 23 turnovers and had a huge rebounding advantage.  Troy got 10 points from Blair Weishaar in the defeat as the Lady Trojans dropped to 0-2 on the season.

BOYS = Hanover 55, Troy 50 in Overtime

Neither team ever led by more six points in this highly contested game as Troy jumped to a 5-0 lead before Hanover scored 8 straight points and it was tied at 10 after one quarter.  Hanover took a 24-21 lead at halftime, but Troy held the 35-32 advantage going into the fourth quarter.  The Trojans continued to lead until the 4:34 mark when a technical foul ended the night for Nathan Gaarder and Will Bruna made 3 of 4 free throws to tie the game at 39.  Hanover made it a 7-0 run by making the next two baskets to lead 43-39.  Troy got help from a couple missed Hanover free throws and Collin Jasper made a driving shot with :50 left to tie the game at 45.  After the Wildcats made one free throw on their next possession, Troy worked the ball and out of a timeout, Jasper hit his fifth trey on the night from the top of the key with 1.5 seconds remaining as Troy celebrated a 48-46 triump.  Yet, in a miraculous play, Hanover threw the ball over the volleyball net and through the rafters without making contact before it fell to Evan Zabokrtsky under his own basket.  He caught and shot the layup to force overtime and stun the Trojans before Hanover carried that momentum into overtime and pulled away for the huge road win.

Andrew Bruna made all four of his free throws in the extra session and finished with 10 points while Will Bruna scored 18.  Zabokrtsky and Austin Diederich each added 9 as Hanover improved to 3-0 on the season.  Collin Jasper hit a couple triples to give Troy the lead to start the game and the third quarter and the big shots late before finishing with 19 points and earning "Player to Bank On" honors from the Citizens State Bank and Trust Company of Hiawatha.  No other Trojan scored in double figures as Jay Whetstine added 7 before also fouling out in the fourth period.  Jake Ross also fouled out and scored 6 points along with Gaarder and Alex Schmille.
