Holton basketball teams ended their regular season on Tuesday night by celebrating senior night with a season sweep of Perry Lecompton.

GIRLS = Holton 39, Perry Lecompton 36

Despite not scoring in the first four minutes, Perry Lecompton held a 10-8 lead after one quarter and stretched the margin to 15-8 early in the second period. However, the Wildcats answered with a 9-0 run and led 20-19 at halftime.  Brooke Flewelling hit a pair of three throws with no time left at the end of the third stanza to tie the game at 26. It was Grace Etzel that hit a pair of treys for Holton in the fourth to give the Lady Cats the lead for good as Lindsey Wisdom connected on a pair of free throws with 27 seconds left for the final points of the night and Perry missed a potential tying three in the closing seconds.

Holton was perfect 9 for 9 at the charity stripe and Wisdom had 18 points as Holton finished the regular season by winning 9 of their last 11 games.  Holton forced 20 Kaw turnovers while improving to 13-7 overall and 9-5 in the Big 7 for their best season record since 2017-18.  They will host a 4A Sub State game on Tuesday.

Perry got nine points from Taylor Damme, who existed late while flying into the bleachers to save a ball. Brooke Metcalfe and Campbell Keller added 8 each as the Kaws were playing for the second straight night after coming up just short against Hiawatha on Monday 42-41. Hard to believe Perry finished winless in the Big 7 League and 3-17 overall as they head to the 3A Pomona Sub State.

BOYS = Holton 45, Perry Lecompton 27

Maybe it was playing a second straight night and running out of energy or maybe it was just the Holton defense, but the Perry boys were held to just four total points in the second half after leading 11-2 early in the game. The Kaws trailed 27-23 at halftime and couldn't get anything to fall in the final two quarter getting outscored 18-4 in the second half.

Gunnar Ball had 11 points while Kaden Doleman added 8 and Seth Cooksey made the only two Kaw triples to finish with 6. Perry finished the regular season 10-10 and 6-8 in Big 7 play.

Holton made 8 of 11 free throws and was led by Tyson Snyder who scored 9 of his 12 points in the second quarter when Holton turned the game around with a 17-10 stretch. Matt Lierz added 9 points and the Wildcats celebrated senior night by letting Reese Holaday start and score the teams first basket after the all-league performer missed his senior sports seasons with a knee injury but continued to support his team and program. Another senior, Cody Miller made his first basket of the year to finish the game and Kobe Black was huge taking a couple charges on defense and scoring six straight points when coming off the bench early with the Cats trailing 13-4.  Holton finished 12-8 overall and 8-6 in league play and will open sub state at home next Wednesday.
