Two Area Coaches & 17 Players Earn KVA All-State or Coach of Year Honors

Another stellar year on the volleyball court in Northeast Kansas and area teams showcased themselves at the State level this year with two area teams claiming State titles and two more bring home third place trophies.

After great volleyball this season 17 area players from the Twin Valley, Big Seven and Northeast Kansas Leagues earned All-State honors from the Kansas Volleyball Association, while one area player was named Player of the Year in her Class and two area coaches earned Coach of the Year honors.

Class 1A leads the way with the most area honorees by the KVA, as six TVL athletes earned All-State in Class1A-Division I and three more TVL athletes earned All-State in Class 1A-Division II. Leading the way with honors is the Centralia Panthers who successfully defended their Class 1A-DI State title this year, earning the school's 11th State title in school history. Senior libero, Liz Hasenkamp and senior outside hitter, Amaris Jones both earned first Team All-State, while sophomore outside hitter, Cassidy Haufler joined her teammates on the first Team, also. Senior setter, Katy Haufler also earned All-State honors picking up honorable mention honors, while Panthers coach, Kimbrook Tennal earned Coach of the Year honors. Centralia finished the year 44-1 and Class 1A-DI State Champions.

Two other TVL athletes earned All-State honors in Class 1A-DI as Valley Heights Mustang, Brandi Jo Roepke earned second team All-State and Clifton-Clyde Eagle, Elizabeth Nobert picked up honorable mention All-State honors. Roepke helped Valley Heights finish the year 26-13 this year, as they made the Sub-State championship match, while Nobert helped Clifton-Clyde to a 18-17 record and an appearance at the 1A-DI State tournament.

In Class 1A-DII the Axtell Eagles took home third place at State finishing the season 28-16 and two players earned All-State honors. Senior, Ashley Buessing earned first Team All-State at outside hitter, while junior, Kiersten Talbot earned honorable mention All-State at setter. Linn Bulldog, Nicole Ohlde was the other TVL player to earn Class 1A-DII All-State honors, picking up First Team honors after helping her team finish 26-12 on the year making the Sub-State title game.

The KVA All-State honors continued to pile in for area athletes out of the TVL in Class 2A as the Washington County Tigers who won the 2A title had a pair of players earn All-State, while coach Laramie Jueneman earned Coach of the Year honors after the Tigers finished 39-4 on the year. Senior, Erin Alexander played her way to first Team All-State honors at outside hitter, while also picking up Player of the Year honors in Class 2A. Alexander's teammate fellow senior outside hitter, Taylor Powell picked up All-State honors earning second team.

Valley Falls Dragon senior setter, Emily Lane also earned All-State honors in Class 2A earning honorable mention after helping the Dragons win the NEKL crown this year and finish the season 32-8 on the season.

Class 3A had just one earn area athlete earn All-State honors, as Maur Hill-Mount Academy Raven junior libero, Carly Taylor picked up honorable mention honors after helping the Ravens finish 25-13 on the year.

The Big Seven League highlighted the area honorees in Class 4A-Division II as Royal Valley and Jeff West both had a pair of athletes earn All-State honors. The Royal Valley Panthers posted a third place performance at State on the year finishing 26-16 and Hannah Beam and Anna Johnson helped them to that mark and both earned All-State. Beam picked up second team honors at outside hitter, while Johnson was named honorable mention All-State at middle blocker. For Jeff West the Tigers finished 25-11 and won the Big Seven title and Olivia Brees helped lead the way on the season and she earned first team All-State at middle blocker. Jeff West junior, Bailey Harvey picked up honorable mention All-State honors at outside hitter.

It was another great year of volleyball competition all around and 17 area athletes were honored with All-State honors, while two Coaches earning honors, too.
