While Frankfort and ACCHS fell from the undefeated ranks in week five of the high school football season, the top Northeast Kansas teams continued to impress.  While Holton and B&B both remain a top their respective classes ranked first in the state, defending champ Centralia-Wetmore is also now listed at the top of their class thanks to a first-upset loss by Stanton County.

In Class 4A, Holton scored more than 50 points for the fourth time this season (55-19 vs. Perry) and now has 278 total points while allowing only 55.  There are only five other teams in Class 4A that remain unbeaten and two great games this week in the state as #2 Mulvane (5-0) plays #5 McPherson (4-1) and #3 Eudora (5-0) plays St. James Academy (5-0).  Fort Scott and Maize South are the only other perfect teams through five weeks.

In Class 3A, the top five has been steady all season and still unbeaten with Silver Lake, Scott City, Beloit, Conway Springs and Garden Plain.  Silver Lake plays fellow 5-0 foe Rossville for the Mid-East League Title this week while Conway and Garden Plain both look for a 6-0 start as they tussel for the Central Plains League Championship.  Locally, Riverside is 5-0 after handing ACCHS (4-1) their first loss 16-9 last Friday in Effingham.  The Cyclones have clinched at least a share of the DVL North Title.
Meanwhile, Nemaha Valley continues turning heads with four straight wins after a season opening loss at McLouth.  The Raiders (4-1), like Holton, remain unbeaten in the Big 7 and play their final league foe (Sabetha) this Friday night on KNZA 103.9 FM.   NV has scored in the fourth quarter to win each of their last three games including a 27-21 comeback against Hiawatha last week, which was the Redhawks second loss after a 3-0 start.

In Class 2-1A, Centralia-Wetmore secured their 14th straight unbeaten Twin Valley League and is ranked #1 or #2 in almost every poll in the state.  The Panthers scored 42 points for the third week in a row and have allowed only 22 points this entire season while starting 5-0.  The 10 game current winning streak for Centralia is the second longest currently in the state, to only defending 3A Champ Conway Springs.
McLouth remains just outside the 2-1A Ranks as they bounced back from a 13-12 loss to Olpe and improved to 4-1 with a 47-12 victory against Pleasant Ridge.  The Bulldogs host fellow 4-1 DVL team Jeff County North for the DVL South Title this Friday night.

In 8-Man Division Two, the B&B Falcons continue to roll; however they had to play a full 48 minute game for the third time this season and actually trailed early against Axtell before posting a 32-14 victory.  The Falcons are ranked #1 across the state and have a showdown versus Frankfort (3-1) this week.  The Wildcats were ranked #3 but suffered their first loss of the year getting upset 70-52 at Blue Valley Randolph.  Frankfort now needs a win, while Blue Valley (3-2) plays at Hanover (4-1) in another crusial game in the District One race.
The Frankfort at B&B game this Friday, October 5th can be heard live on KMZA 92.1 FM.
