As a player, Atchison volleyball coach Liz Harris could never win against Tonganoxie. The result was the same as a coach.
Well, she can finally put a checkmark next to Tonganoxie as a victory.
Though it took the Lady Redmen all five sets, Atchison officially started its season with a victory over Tonganoxie on Monday.
The first set was a close battle, but Tonganoxie earned the first victory winning 25-19. Atchison bounced back and took the next set winning 25-16. The third set consisted of players diving all over the court and both teams going a long time before receiving a point. Atchison came out on top with a 25-23 set victory.
Tonganoxie had enough of the close sets and dominated the fourth 25-11 to bring the match to the fifth and final set. The Lady Chieftains started out strong, but it was the Lady Redmen that bounced back to steal the victory, 15-11.
Atchison looks to build on the success as the Lady Redmen travel to the Schlagle Tournament on Thursday, September 12.
