Looking to continue to remain unbeaten, Seneca played host to fellow NEK League team Hiawatha who was looking to find some consistency, on Friday in a make-up double header.

It was a tale of two entirely different ballgames on Friday as Seneca ran past Hiawatha in five innings 9-1 in game one and held on to top Hiawatha 9-8 in a scheduled five inning game in the nightcap.

Game one started off with an early 2-0 lead for Seneca who soon pushed out their lead to 5-0 behind a three-run third before Hiawatha plated what was their only run of the game coming in the top of the fourth inning. Seneca responded to match Hiawatha's run and add two more for another three-run inning this time pushing their lead to 8-1 after four innings. Blanking Hiawatha in the top of the five, Seneca needed one-run to end the game and got it in the bottom of the fifth for the 9-1 win.

Michael Rottinghaus and Eric Huerter lead the way for Seneca each going 2-2 on the night at the plate, with Rottinghaus scoring four runs and Huerter running across home three times and adding two RBI and a walk. Alex Rottinghaus and Dustin Rottinghaus, too had solid offensive nights with a hit, run scored and two RBI's each.

While the offense produced for Seneca Eric Sperfslage and Isaac McWilliams combined to give up a lone run on the mound in five innings to Hiawatha. Sperfslage in three innings earned the win just giving up three hits and striking out two.

In the loss, Dakota Bayles had the hot bat for Hiawatha as he was 2-3, while Baxter DeFore, Taylor Jacobsen and Brendan Steele each had a time.

Game two was a different story as the competitive balance seemed more even but the result was the same as Seneca grabbed the 9-8 victory.

The offense poured out runs early for both teams as Hiawatha struck first behind a four-run first inning, but Seneca wasted no time coming back as they answered with a five-run bottom of the first. Hiawatha regained the lead behind a three-run second, before Seneca tallied a three-run second of their own and the added another run in the third to lead it 9-7 after three.

Down two runs Hiawatha had two innings to go in the scheduled five inning game to comeback and in the fourth they got one-run back to close within one, but came up short in the top of the fifth to fall 9-8.

Seneca needed three pitchers to hold on for the win with David Olberding coming in relief to pitch 3 2/3 innings for the win giving up two hits, a run two walks and striking out two.

The offense continued its game one trend as Alex Rottinghaus and Olberding each went 2-3; Rottinghaus added two runs scored and an RBI, while Olberding tallied three RBI and a run scored. Huerter got in on the action again, too with a 1-2 night with two runs scored and two RBI.

In the loss, Bayles continued to the hit the ball well for Hiawatha going 2-3 with pair of runs scored and an RBI, while Jeff Costa added a 2-3 night with three RBI.

Two more wins for Seneca on the season, keeping them unbeaten on the year thus far at 9-0 on the season, while Hiawatha with the loss fall to 3-6 on the season.
