Doniphan County legion baseball opened up their annual legion tournament last night in Wathena taking on Rock Creek with the other first round game Atchison versus Falls City taking to the field tonight.

Rock Creek jumped out to an early lead and took control of the game, cruising to a 9-1 win over Doniphan County. Doniphan County struggled on both sides of the ball with errors leading to runs for Rock Creek and the offense laced the timely hits needed to score and muster a potential rally in the game.

Dylan Gabriel took the tough loss on the mound for Doniphan County with a handful of his runs given up being unearned.

With the loss Doniphan County falls to 3-6 on the season and will play in the third place game on Saturday in the tournament at 2:30pm versus the loser of tonight's matchup with Atchison and Falls City. The win of that game will face off with Rock Creek in the Championship game at 7:30pm, Saturday.

It's a shortened tournament this as it features the junior legion teams of each teams particapting, also. Doniphan Counties junior legion team topped Rock Creek 14-4 last night, moving Doniphan County junior legion to the championship at 5:00pm on Saturday and Rock Creek to the third place game at noon. The winner and loser of the Atchison versus Falls City will in the championship and third place, respectively on Saturday.
