Deters Helps Centralia to TVL Tourney Title, Surpasses 1,000 Career Points
Oen Deters

Deters has been one of the best basketball players in the entire state since she entered varsity competition in her freshman year. This past weekend, she surpassed the 1,000-point mark in her illustrious career at Centralia.

Not only that, but she guided her team to their second Twin Valley League tournament win in the past three seasons.

In their quarterfinal win over Doniphan West, Deters dropped 31 points going 12-for-15 from the free throw line. In the second quarter, she had all of the team’s points, and in the totality of the game, she scored 62% of the team’s points. The Panthers won the contest by a score of 50-32.

In the semifinals, Centralia survived with a 46-42 win over Valley Heights as Deters finished with 13 points. In the championship game, the Panthers trailed by five inside the final two minutes and went on an 11-2 run to clinch the title and hand Clifton-Clyde their first loss of the season. Deters scored 17 points and went 7-for-10 from the free throw line and 2-for-3 from three.

Centralia enters the second half of their season with a nine-game winning streak and a 9-1 overall record. They are also a perfect 3-0 in TVL play.

"Oen has been great to coach," said Centralia head coach Dusty Thompson. "She's spent so much time in a gym that she sees the game differently and is a coach on the floor. Reaching 1000 points is just one of the many marks she'll reach playing basketball."
