|
This week we are highlighting Holton junior quarterback Matt Lierz as one of our “Athletes of the week”.
Lierz helped lead the Wildcats to an 11-1 record this season and a trip to the 3A Sub-State round before losing at Frontenac to end their season.
This season, Lierz completed 14 of 36 passes for 311 yards with six touchdowns to just three interceptions. He also added 54 carries for 719 yards and 12 more scores while averaging over 13 yards per carry. Lierz was one of four Holton juniors that all ran for more than 650 yards.
On defense, Lierz piled up 38 total tackles, two interceptions, a tackle for loss, and a forced fumble. The talented junior also racked up 560 yards as the teams primary kickoff and punt return man and was successful on 45 of 50 PATs while also kicking two field goals including a game-winner in week one against Nemaha Central.
Lierz was the only player in the Big 7 League this season to be named First Team All-League at three difference positions. Quarterback, defensive back, and kicker.
