The Doniphan West track team opened the 2021 season last week at the Falls City Invitational and amid a dominant performance the Mustangs received two school record breaking performances from sophomore Claire Cole.
Cole started the day with a win in the 100-meter hurdles where she broke the school record with a time of 16.6 seconds and followed that up with a win in the 300-meter hurdles where she set another record with a time of 50.9 seconds.
Not only did she break those two records, but Cole was also a part of the Mustangs 4 by 400-meter relay team that also took first place.
It’s the first time that Cole has been able to run since helping the Mustangs capture a second straight 1A State Cross Country Championship where she took 11th individually,
As a freshman Cole did not get to compete on the track with the cancellation of spring sports due to COVID-19, but earlier that year she was able to place 16th at state cross country where the Mustangs captured the 1A team title.
Cole will now have the opportunity to continue to show what she can do on the track with several meets still to go in the 2021 season.
