For at least the last decade the Holton wrestling team has been one of the best throughout the state of Kansas and this year is no different after the Cats went on the road to the Abilene Invitational on Saturday and picked up a team title.
The Cats did it behind four first place finishes on the day led by senior Konnor Tannahill who went a perfect 3-0 with three easy victories on the day at 195 pounds.
He opened the tournament with a pin in just 1:51 over a wrestler from Chapman and then followed that up with another pin in just 1:47 over a wrestler from Eudora.
In the championship match he continued his dominant day with a tech fall, 17-2 win over Baldwin’s top wrestler to improve to 9-0 on the season.
This comes after Tannahill was dominant a year ago on his way to a 31-6 record and a Class 4A State Championship at 195 pounds.
Along with the state title he also claimed a Big 7 League championship last season and the 4A regional title at Louisburg.
In Tannahill’s sophomore campaign he took third at state with a 33-3 record after going 1-2 at state as a freshman finishing with over 30 wins as well.
He will look to continue his strong start to the season and road to repeat as the Cats have a single dual this week against Atchison on Friday before hosting a tournament coming up on Saturday.
