The Sabetha girls’ basketball team has started the 2020-21 season right where they left off last season after winning 19 games as the Lady Jays are off to a perfect 5-0 mark with each win by at least 12 points.
A big key to the success of the Lady Jays has been the play of senior Leah Renyer who last week continued her hot start to the season with a pair of double-digit performances in two wins.
In Tuesday’s 64-23 win over Riverside, Renyer opened the week with a 15-point performance and followed that up with a team-high 11 points in a 36-24 win Friday over Jeff West.
Through the Lady Jays first five games she is averaging just under 12 points per game while recording three steals, one assist and nearly seven rebounds a night.
Renyer was named an honorable mention all-Big 7 League selection last season after averaging nine points per game including nearly 15 points per contest over the Lady Jays final six games.
She will look to continue her strong start and will need a big game Tuesday night as Sabetha hosts unbeaten Nemaha Central with live coverage on 103.9 KNZA.
