The 2020-21 high school basketball could not have gotten off to a better start for the Wetmore girls last week as the Cardinals opened the season 3-0 while claiming the Blue Valley Invitational in the process.

Wetmore had big performances throughout but the most consistent force throughout the three games was junior Kenzie Strathman who delivered 15.7 points per game along with 7.7 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 2.7 assists.

She started the year with 10 points and 12 rebounds in the Cardinals win over Onaga and then followed that up with 19 points in the win over Blue Valley and 18 points in the final victory over Linn.

Those averages through the first three games are remarkably like what she did as sophomore when she averaged 14 points, 9 rebounds and nearly 3 steals per game earning her first team all-Twin Valley League honors.

She has scored over 20 points six times in her career and has a 28-point effort to her credit which came last season in a win over Cornerstone along with recording double-digit rebounds in 12 career games.

Strathman will look to continue to lead the experienced Cardinals squad in the right direction but will have her toughest test of the night on Tuesday when Wetmore hosts Centralia with live coverage on 92.1 KMZA.
