Shot Out of a Canon, Karn Keeps Holton Rolling to Sub-State
Canon Karn

Back in the Sub-State round for the first time since 2016, Holton has found ways to dominate their opponents. Building such great leads in the first half to where starters are able to rest throughout the second half in six of their ten games. A large part of Holton's success has been from standout senior running-back and linebacker Canon Karn.

A season ago as a Junior, Karn was the second leading rusher on the team with just under 800 yards and eight touchdowns. On the defensive side, he lead the Wildcats with a team high 75 tackles on the year. This season has been much the same for Karn, this time leading the team in rushing with 1,287 yards and a team high 19 touchdowns heading into Sub-State.

Karn would be the first to tell you that he would not have the success he has had without his teammates. An offensive line that lost senior leader Andrew Williams to injury in the first game of the year, has came together to form one of the best fronts in the state. Alongside Karn in the backfield are fellow seniors Addison Hundley and Konnor Tannahill known locally as the three headed monster. For 25th year head coach Brooks Barta's offense to work to perfection, those in the backfield must be able to not only carry out fakes, but block. That's what makes this backfield so tough, and makes them a nightmare for defensive coordinators.

In his most recent game, Karn had career bests in carries and yards with 22 carries and 234 yards on the ground. He also found the end zone three times and was once again a major factor on the defensive side helping Holton hold Frontenac to just 213 total offensive yards while forcing three turnovers.

Karn and the Wildcats are 9-1 on the year, with their only loss coming against Perry-Lecompton in week three. Now, they will face off against that same Kaw team with the winner to represent the East in the 3A state championship game in Hutchinson.
