Madsen Leads Hiawatha Volleyball to Strong Start
Sarah Madsen

Heading into each high school volleyball season there are always surprises with teams exceeding expectations.

For the Hiawatha girls just one year after finishing with a 15-17 record the Redhawks have started 2020 red hot racing out to a 12-4 record and last week captured their home invitational while winning two league games over Riverside Tuesday night.

A big key to the success of the Redhawks has been the play of junior captain Sarah Madsen who has produced not only on the court but off the court with her ability to lead and her willingness to play any position on the floor.

So far this season Madsen has compiled 133 kills, 117 digs, 22 aces and a serve percentage of 90.2 percent.

Hiawatha head coach Brenda Siebenmorgen spoke highly of Madsen noting, “Sarah is someone I depend on to fulfill any role needed at the time.”

“She is obviously a strong hitter, but she is such a versatile player. I could put her in literally any position on the court and she will be great at it. She is a passionate competitor and a true leader on the court.”

Madsen will look to continue to lead the Redhawks in the right direction this week as Hiawatha is scheduled to host Jeff West Tuesday night.
