Mitchell Buessing

The Axtell football team entered Friday night off one of the best seasons in school history where they reached the 8-man DII State Championship before falling to Osborne.

The Eagles returned a ton of talent off last year’s team and had a strong showing in week one of the 2020 season in a 58-18 beat down of Wheatland/Grinnell thanks to a big game from senior Mitchell Buessing.

On offense Buessing caught 11 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns while defensively he recorded two interceptions with one of those being a 79-yard pick-six.

Buessing is coming off a breakout season where he ran for 323 yards and three touchdowns while catching 49 passes for 599 yards and eight touchdowns.

Defensively Buessing recorded 46 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions and one forced fumble.

Buessing got off to a great start in his senior season and will look to lead Axtell to yet another winning season and potentially back to the state championship game in Newton.
