The 2020 fall sports season officially got underway on Saturday with area volleyball teams in action and with that we have selected our first girls’ athletes of the week presented by Highland Community College in Nemaha Central’s Addy Holthaus.

Holthaus helped lead the Thunder to a second-place finish at the Marysville Invitational with a big day recording 33 kills, eight blocks, 42 digs and two aces.

She finished the day with a serve percentage of 90 percent and a hit percentage of 26 percent.

The Thunder were great all day long behind the strong play of Holthaus as Nemaha Central breezed through pool play with a perfect 3-0 mark which included two-set wins over Concordia, Washington County and Marysville.

That 3-0 mark propelled the Thunder straight into the championship match where Nemaha Central fell to Big 7 rival Sabetha in three sets.

The second place finish has the Thunder off to a 3-1 start to the year and Holthaus will look to continue her strong play Tuesday night as Nemaha Central opens Big 7 play by hosting Perry Lecompton in Seneca.
